Balmain-Drummoyne Regatta
The Balmain and Drummoyne Rowing Clubs held their combined regatta on the Iron Cove course on Saturday afternoon in fine weather. The light southerly breeze created a ripple on the water, and this made the work of the oarsmen more interesting. A large number of people gathered on Rodd Island, where the races finished, while the official steamer was crowded. Those who attenced the regatta were well rewarded, as they were treated to some of the finest racing seen this season.
The title of lightweight champions of New South Wales was retained by Balmain Rowing Club. In this race the Balmain crew, by sheer determination and grit, fought their way, stroke by stroke, to the front, and won by only a few feet. It was one of the best sustained efforts seen in this State in the history of eight-oared rowing, and the stroke and his crew are to be complimented on their wonderful performance after rowing the two mile course, the stroke more particularly for his determination when the position looked impossible.
